MELISSA CALDWELL ENGLE

Executive Vice President of Clinical Development and Programming and Co-founder, MS, LPC, ATR

As a licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Melissa Caldwell Engle has over 30 years of experience in the mental health industry.  She is a subject matter expert in treating complex trauma and related mental health symptoms, diagnoses, and addictions.  She has worked in a variety of venues with a broad range of clientele.  She has provided consultation, training, and treatment all over the world.  Mrs. Caldwell Engle has a unique way of translating theory and clinical practice into relatable, applicable, and easy-to-understand information. Her approach allows her to reach a broad audience of clinicians, clients, and laypeople.  Her humor and case examples create a highly entertaining presentation style that makes her a recognized and sought-after international speaker.

Mrs. Caldwell Engle’s mission is to destigmatize mental health and addiction through educating and fostering the development of organizational leaders, human service providers, and clients to respond more effectively to the impact of childhood trauma at the individual and societal level.

Currently, she co-founded and serves as the Clinical Director for Healing Springs Ranch, an innovative 28-bed co-ed residential treatment facility for addiction, trauma, and mental health, embodying all aspects of psychological and physiological recovery.  She is one of the core developers of the LifeWorks Wellness program, an intensive retreat for life balance, and optimal performance.

She is also a co-founder of the Trauma Recovery Associates (TRA), a program created in response to the Catholic Church’s sex abuse scandal in 2002.  Since then, it has become an internationally recognized program for sex abuse survivors across many different denominations.

Specialties:

Melissa’s specialty is to help you identify and understand your personal “emotional responding style” and how it can directly impact your mental, physical, and spiritual health.  Research has now shown that unhealthy forms of emotional responding can have far-reaching consequences, adding unneeded strain on your personal relationships, job performance, and life satisfaction.  These unhealthy styles can also lead to heart disease, GI issues, high blood pressure, and other chronic physical symptoms and diagnoses.  Depression, anxiety, sexual dysfunction, and addictive patterns can develop as a result.  Unrecognized and unaddressed, these toxic patterns can even make their way into your children’s emotional development often seen as low self-esteem, identity problems, lack of focus and drive, and emotional fragility.

Recognizing and changing unhealthy “emotional responding styles” offers an opportunity to prevent, treat, and even reverse many mental and psychical health symptoms and diagnoses.
